Ok. But it's still close enough to 2G that I could easily believe that the pre-core saving memory use + 1.7G doesn't fit in 4G. Are you explicitly setting bytes-consed-between-gcs? If not, perhaps the new larger default value is causing the memory use / high water mark to be a bit larger than before, and thus causing the failure.
