Using max function.
<xsl:variable name="szd" >
<xsl:for-each select="tokenize($namesDistinct,' ')" >
<xsl:variable name="thisEl" select="."/>
<xsl:if test="not(. = '')">
defines the variable.
Nothing special about it.
Max is <xsl:value-of select="max($szd/row/kids)"/>
The xsl:message prints out a whole list of numbers, say 1..100
and the Max value shows up as 24, which is anything but the max.
Trying it with simpler sequences, works well.
With a simpler input document it works too.
As soon as I feed it a complex document, it starts to show the error.
For a failing case, the true max should be 25096,
and it shows as 93.
