No, there isn’t. At some stage I would like to do a general try/catch in Saxon but my priority is to fully implement the features in the spec rather than to devise more extensions.

I think I asked about this in an earlier Saxon version.

Using Saxon 7.8, is there any way of knowing that saxon:evaluate() will fail (perhaps a syntax error) or recovering from it?
