Hello Michael,

Thank you very much.
Its a very useful information for me.

It will be helpful for me if you can provide an example

1) How to handle the error from saxon.

2) How can I use character map

I would like to know what is the difference between providing xsl:output as xml, html and xhtml.

I googled on the same, but dint got much information.
Please provide some links which can explain me those differences.

Regards,
Santhosh,

Opening your file with a hex editor shows that between the 0 (x30) and 4
(x34) your file contains the following octets:

C2 98 E2 80 93

This is a valid UTF-8 encoding of the two characters

U+0098 <control> character (˜)
U+2013 EN DASH character (–)

The first character, U+0098, is not legal in HTML, and the HTML output
method therefore rejects it.

If you are not seeing an error, then there is something wrong with the
way you are doing error handling. When I try to do this, I get

Error
SERE0014: Illegal HTML character: decimal 152

(decimal 152 = hex 98)

You have two options. You can try to work out why your XML contains this
strange control character, and fix the problem at source; or you can try
in your transformation to correct the problem, perhaps by using
character maps.
