You need to use the -c option on the command line to tell Saxon that you are supplying a .sxx file rather than a normal XSLT source file. The error is because Xerces is trying to parse a file (the compiled stylesheet) that isn't XML.

I am trying to share a modularized stylesheet. Rather than sending the entire directory, I want to send it as a compiled executable. I created it successfully, but when I try to run it, I get this error:

Error
  com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.io.MalformedByteSequenceException: Invalid byte 1
  of 1-byte UTF-8 sequence.
Failed to compile stylesheet. 1 error detected.

It was compiled with Saxon9ee version 9.2.0.6J and I ran it with Saxon9he version 9.2.0.2J. Here is the command I used:

java -jar saxon9he.jar -o output.pdf input.xml compiled.sxx

Thank you.
