You've been asking questions about this transformation on the Wrox forum, and since most of your questions are processor-independent, I think it's best to continue the discussion there. (Though I really would encourage you to get a good XSLT book and work through the examples - you need to learn to walk before you can run.)
 
As far as installing Saxon goes, start at http://saxon.sf.net/ for instructions on how to download (and which version to choose), and have a look at the "getting started" documentation at

If you've no experience with Java or command line tools then it's probably easiest to start with Kernow, which you can get here:

Kernow includes a copy of Saxon and provides an easy-to-use GUI front end.
