Paul, With the cross cut code, all the panels are square to the leech. If you change the width of the first panel then it will intersect the foot at a different place. With the twist foot code the lower panel is running from luff to leech such that it is full foot length panel. the upper seam is not necessarily square to the leech depending on cloth width. The next panel with the narrow width will also run from luff to leech but again not necessarily square to the leech simply because its width is limited to the cloth width. Try changing the cloth width to see if the upper seam become square to the leech like the higher panels. Toward the end of the layout module there is a test to ensure that the panel fit within the cloth width and it adjusts the position of the leech end of the seam if the width of the developed panel exceeds the cloth width.
