Recently, Amazon added support in S3 to allow data to be archived in Glacier. This is a nice addition, but unfortunately one cannot access that archived data using s3cmd. Amazon introduced an API (http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/API/RESTObjectPOSTrestore.html) to allow one to instruct Amazon S3 to restore the object from Glacier.
There were previous requests for s3cmd to support Glacier, but with Amazon's current integration of Glacier with S3, I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense to overload the s3cmd with Glacier support. However, support for this "restore" command would be useful. It might also be useful to see a visual indicator that an object is archived in Glacier when issuing 's3cmd ls'. Apparently, this is possible using this API: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/API/RESTBucketGET.html.
I'd love to see support for Glacier via the above referenced S3 REST APIs.
