Hi, I'm going to release Ruby-GNOME2-0.2 this weekend. Please check latest CVS version and tell me if you have any troubles. BTW, I intend to include Ruby/GdkPixbuf to the ruby-gtk package which is minimum package of Ruby-GNOME2. Because Ruby/GTK depends on Ruby/GdkPixbuf. Any comments? Cheers, Masao. -- .:% Masao Mutoh<mu...@hi...> |

I have a couple of fixes attached: Pango - a couple of the returned arrays in Pango::Layout used the wrong macros (ie. NUM2INT instead of INT2NUM) Added a definition of Pango::SCALE - the currently used conversion between pixels and Pango units. (I wasn't sure what the best place was, so I just stuck it in rbpangomain.c) In Gdk::GC#set_clip_rectangle the wrong type was passed to RVAL2BOXED Finally, just a suggestion (I've come across a few cases where Gtk returns a NULL string which Ruby doesn't like) - a check for NULL strings in the CSTR2RVAL macro so that a NULL string translates to nil rather than raising an ArgumentError. Hi, OK, I'll release Ruby-GNOME2-0.10.0 at the first weekend of August(7 or 8, August). I thought I release 1.0.0 on this time, but it's still unstable and many APIs haven't been implemented. So I decided to keep unstable release until I satisfy myself. Maintainers, try to update your libraries for newest version of C libraries, please. Laurent, Could you merge Ruby/GtkSourceView to the ruby-gnome2 CVS's source tree ? And everyone, any comments? -- .:% Masao Mutoh<mu...@hi...> |

I think the plan is for the bindings to follow the same release cycle as GNOME, so I think it is too late for us to propose Ruby-GNOME2 to be included for 2.8 -- the module decision date was on Monday. See http://www.gnome.org/start/2.7/bindings/. I think we should be ready for inclusion in the 2.9 release cycle. -- Dafydd |

Here's a brief summary of the things I've come across: 02-gdkpixbuf_rbgdk-pixbuf.c.diff - Gdk::Pixbuf.get_file_info() Return image width and height as well as the GdkPixbufFormat 05-gtk_src_rbgdkatom.c.diff - Gdk::Atom.intern() Allow an int to be converted directly to Gdk::Atom It might seem a bit low level to allow this - it potentially allows the programmer to create invalid atoms, but I've come across situations where I needed it... but I can't remember what for :( - Gdk::Atom#nil? - New function Test whether the numerical value of an atom is zero (ie. nil/meaningless atom) 07-gtk_src_rbgdkrgb.c.diff - Gdk::RGB#find_color Fix passing of colormap to gdk_rgb_find_color() 10-gtk_src_rbgtkallocation.c.diff - Gtk::Allocation Make object non-copyable (ie. modifiable) * I'm not sure whether this is needed - in theory it might be useful. 11-gtk_src_rbgtkdrag.c.diff - Gtk::Drag.dest_set() Allow nil as well as empty target list (ie. accept any rather than accept none) 13-gtk_src_rbgtkselectiondata.c.diff - rbgtk_atom2selectiondata() Calculate length properly (take format size into account) 14-gtk_src_rbgtktoolbutton.c.diff - Gtk::ToolButton.new Use Symbols instead of Strings for stock-id (as elsewhere) 24-pango_src_rbpangoitem.c.diff - Pango::Item#split Fix method registration (2 parameters, not 0) -- Geoff Youngs <g...@in...> |

AFAICT, yes. I think it's clearer and more ruby-ish to have a test function - better than relying on testing against a 'magic' value. I've held back on this patch for the time being - thinking about it #nil? is probably the wrong name... any thoughts on the following? #zero? #none? #empty? #invalid? (or, #valid?) Or we could automatically translate (atom == 0) to nil? What do people think? -- Geoff Youngs <g...@in...> |

I've recompiled it twice just to make sure (in the second one I deleted the previous used ruby-gnome2 and worked on a newly created copy). So now I have compiled and installed Ruby-GNOME2 with GTK+2.6 and GTK+2.4 on WindowsXPSP2 using the freely available VC++ compiler. I have some write-ups on what I needed to do at: http://www.geocities.com/joaopedrosa//CompileRubyGnome2Windows.html But it could be better written. It's never too much to thank Masao for his great talent in putting together these nice bindings that deserve more attention of the people that need GUI apps or need to use GTK+. :-) Thanks Masao. > And are there any suggestions? It would be great to create ruby gems as you did for ruby-gettext. I can do it if you want. Is it better to create one gem for everything or one gem per module ? I tend to prefer the first solution. I suggest : - one gem "ruby-gnome2" (with everything, compilation at the installation time) - one gem "ruby-gtk2" for win32 (gtk2 and glade2, dlls provided) I think a rubyforge account is needed to host the gem files and maybe the gemspec / Rakefile in the CVS. I need a simple solution to install a ruby-gtk2 program on win32, I think it would solve my problem. Mathieu. |
