RSSOwl has just moved to his new Webhost. That will not only increase the performance of the existing webpage, but also provides the needs for the web-relaunch that is planned when RSSOwl 1.0 is released.
Please Bookmark www.rssowl.org (or www.rssowl.de).
PS: Mark your calendar for the upcoming release of RSSOwl 1.0 in some weeks :)
Special thanks to Kay for creating the new RPMs of RSSOwl 0.9b. Download them here:
unfortunately the readme of the 0.9b source release points to an old SWT version. That version misses one method that RSSOwl is using.
If you want to compile RSSOwl, make sure you use the latest SWT build from http://download2.eclipse.org/downloads/index.php.
To make sure that build is stable, always download the "3.1 Stream Integration Build".
With this new release, RSSOwl has made a big step towards the stable version 1.0.
A huge number of bugs has been fixed and very interesting and usefull features
have made it in.
The updated SWT version now allows to use Mozilla 1.7 as internal browser. Some other browser related bugs were fixed in that SWT version too.
The layout of generated PDF/RTF/HTML documents has been improved, such as PDF documents now show an outline with titles of all news as chapters. Not only the newstext but also publish date, author and the newsfeed site is now exported to the document too.... read more

Read News in a tabfolder, save favorites in categories, Export to PDF / RTF / HTML / OPML, Import Feeds from OPML, perform fulltext-search, use internal browser. The next version of RSSOwl is available. Finally, loading any number of feeds and aggregations is now running completly in the background allowing to open feeds while a loading is running. This not only removes the annoying "Please wait..." dialog, but also improves the performance when loading aggregations. A comparison of time it takes loading the 130 sample favorites resulted in 14.5 seconds for RSSOwl 0.82b and 90.5 seconds for earlier versions.... read more
I just wanted to point you to the new "Promotion" section on rssowl.org. With the help of our cool designer Jesse R. we now provide two versions of promotional buttons. See "Promotion" on RSSOwl.org on how to include them on your webpage, or the page of your friends:
Help us spread RSSOwl around the Net :).
Another upate to the 0.81b release which only affects Mac users. If you are running Mac OS X and got problems launching RSSOwl, please have a new download and try again.

Some application crashes should be fixed
If you got any problems with the release from yesterday, please update your version.
Happy birthday RSSOwl!
We are very happy to announce the 1-year-birthday-version 0.81b. Some of the exciting new features include a tray-popup that informs when new news have been downloaded, support for GZip compressed newsfeeds, new powerfull XML Parser (Apache Xerces) and improved stability and performance.

I am back at a very good internet connection which makes it possible for me to keep the content of RSSOwl in CVS current. There should be an update at least once a week.
All versions downloaded from CVS will compile but will most likely be not as stable as the public releases.
To browse RSSOwl's CVS data use this URL: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/rssowl
Just wanted to inform you about my plans for the 1-year birthday of RSSOwl, 27th of July:
There will be a birthday-release (0.81b) that should fix all critical bugs that have been reported.
It might come with compression support for newsfeed-servers that provide gzip encoding, making feed-download very fast. Just gzip a 50kb XML file and you see what it's about :).
One year old RSSOwl will also have a special surprise that is so secret, that only 2 people in the whole world know of it ^^.
I am currently getting a lot of feedback regarding unexpected
crashes of RSSOwl. Not sure if this is because of the new, easy
feedback mechanism that allows to directly send a mail after
the exception occured. Or maybe because of the huge list of
changes in RSSOwl 0.8b.
Future plans for RSSOwl are to stabilize it in 0.81b with less
focus on feature enhancements, but bugfixing and restructuring
of the sourcecode. ... read more
I've just uploaded an updated RSSOwl 0.8b. If you had a download yesterday, please download again.
The updated version allows to register to AmphetaRate from within RSSOwl (in Preferences "AmphetaRate) and should fix a critical bug that only occured on Mac / Linux / Solaris (thanks for several Error Reports I received on that issue).
