I've recently installed idesk on fluxbox/fluxspace, and subsequently
ROX-Filer, and overall it all (almost) works great. However, there
are two issues that still remain for me. The first is the panel
configuration, I've been poking around /usr/home/.../.config/
rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer and I found the configuration files but
there are no options to configure, well, what I'm looking to
configure. How do I change the look and feel of the Panel? I'd like
to change the colour for one and I'm having a hard time believing
this isn't possible, I'm hoping this is an oversight on my part. I've
scoured the net and I really can't find much if anything on this,
which is leading me to believe it's just not possible, which in turn
is making me believe as I just mentioned that I'm overlooking
something. The ROX website has been less than helpful on this subject
as well and I just don't know where to look next.
My second question, which I'm unsure fits the scope of this mailing
list, however, considering how closely related these programs are I'm
hoping someone can provide some insight. If not, let me know and I'll
harass the idesk people. :) Anyway, the question pertains to putting
icons on your desktop. ROX-Filer uses the pinboard to place icons on
the desktop, but as a known issue prevents the fluxbox menu from
working, it's replaced by the icon/pinboard menu when right clicking.
Reading the fluxspace docs suggests that I use the idesk icon method
of placing icons which, from what I understand uses fluxspace-add-
idesk-icon command. However,I have been unable to find any sort of
supporting documentation on how to use this command, nor have I been
able to find examples of it used elsewhere so I'm really unsure of
the format. Off the top of my head it's something like this...
fluxspace-add-idesk-icon <workspace #> <Caption> <program to run>
I'm simply unsure on how to apply this format to my own usage. For
example, would it be: fluxspace-add-idesk-icon -workspace=1 or...
fluxspace-add-idesk-icon 1 captaion ... At this point I hit a wall
because of the syntax.
Regardless, any insight would be appreciated and I appreciate the
time you've taken to read this.

Try typing "ROX-Filer change the look and feel of the Panel" into Google.
It's the first result.

Look in Options - Compatibility in the filer. 'Pass all backdrop mouse
clicks' and 'Blackbox root menus hack' may both do interesting stuff.
