The 'New' menu provided when one right-clicks on a blank space in a
filer window appears to contain two defaults which can't be renamed or
removed: Directory and Blank File. Can these be made into actual
things in the 'Templates' dir?
This would have the following immediate benifits:
- The menu would appear in a sane order. As it stands, 'Customise
menu' appears /below/ these defaults, but /above/ any the user puts
in. This change would have Customise, then a separator, then the
user-provided options, matching the ordering in the File menu.
- It would be possible to rename these things, so I might be able to
create a new 'Plain Text File', or a new 'Folder'.
- These items would use the appropriate MIME icon in the menu. As it
stands, 'Directory' has no icon, and 'Blank File' has an icon which
appears to be linked to my GTK icon theme (I assume both are using the
GTK theme, and none for 'Directory' exists in my current one?). While
matching the icon theme is what every other menu does, matching the
MIME icon would be better for identifying the type of file, and is
what the other options in thie menu do anyway.
The one benefit I do see to leaving it as it is is that it is
impossible to end up with an empty menu by accidentally deleting the
Templates folder. However, this can be rectified either by copying
other files from somewhere and modifying as appropriate, or with the
shell minibuffer, and instructions for this could easily be provided
somewhere on the ROX website.
