Perhaps I need to take Emacs to it! No, we do that. RISC OS used to turn the pointer into an hourglass a third of a second after you clicked and until the program was loaded. This way, you could tell that it was doing something. Since Linux continues multi-tasking while a program is loading there wouldn't be any indication that anything was happening...
