This isn't really a RG question, but I can't get subscribed to the Linux Audio list for some bizarre reason, and I figured surely someone here has run into this problem. I just recently installed Fedora 14 x86_64 (KDE) on a new laptop. I've got the CCRMA repos enabled, and have everything working pretty much with only one hitch. The install put KMIX in as the default mixer, and it only gives me a master volume for playback, and another for "capture." On my old FC 7 install, I had independent faders for each playback source and each input source. I figured it was KMIX, so I tried alsamixer AND gmixer, and they both give the same results. There is only a master output and a master input. I NEED independent faders, mainly because this laptop has a built-in webcam mic, and it is 'hot' all the time apparently, and even when I patch a source (i.e.-linuxsampler) directly to an RG audio input in qjackctrl, the meters still read ambient noise being picked up by the mic. I need a way to turn it down or off. Also, connecting my external mixer via USB doesn't change anything. I still have only 1 input and 1 output level control. What am I missing here? Surely this isn't some "improvement" that they've made somewhere between FC7 and 14? -- Check out the website I've been cobbling together. I don't know the specifics of your particular setup, but it's entirely possible that's exactly what happened. Rosegarden Companion talks about the "Synth" or "Wave" (I forget which) mixer channel on the emu10k1, but I haven't seen that control available for several years now. I have no idea what happened along the way, but something did. The same sort of something might have happened to you too; especially going that many distro versions in one whack. -- D. You must have kde 4.6.1 or one of the 4.6 betas installed. You should seek help either on a kde list or a Fedora list, better still fedora-kde if there is a list or forum dedicated to kde. Regards |

After seeing a random post on a Linux audio site, I changed my Google search parameters and have come up with a cause for this, and a partial solution. The cause is PULSEAUDIO. There is apparently NO WAY to easily remove this abomination from an Fedora 14 installation. However, you can disable it, at least partially. In my ~/.bashrc file, I entered the line: export KMIX_PULSEAUDIO_DISABLE=1 Kmix now apparently gives me access to all of my inputs and outputs. I haven't fully tested this yet, but it looks promising. -- Check out the website I've been cobbling together.
