I recorded a track and now i'm trying to tweak it - adjust timings
(delay notes that are too early, etc), and things like that.
The problem is, the matrix editor behaves very erratically. I turn on
the resize tool, configure quantize to off, start dragging an event -
all of a sudden quantize sets itself to 1/1
Set quantize to off again, select the Move tool, move an event - again
Quantize jumps to 1/1
Very annoying. Impossible to make fine adjustments.

Chris explained this a bit back, but I forgot what he said.
Let's see... Digging out my cheat sheet:
"The matrix quantize combo also has the side-effect of showing you how
quantized your notes are already -- it always updates to show you the
coarsest possible grid that will match all of the note start times as they
exist now (in the selection, if there is one, or the whole matrix otherwise).
Wacky but vaguely interesting."
The short end of this is just ignore it. The Quantize combo has nothing to do
with the behavior you're observing.

What you want to do is either change the Grid combo to something finer, or
bypass the grid entirely by holding the shift key while resizing. By
default, it snaps to the nearest grid line unless you override this behavior
with the shift key.

To add to Silvan's post on this subject: the quantize menu at the top
of the matrix view is a bit of a funny one, it's really a combined
function and display rather than a setting. That is, you can use it
as a function (if you select some notes and then change the quantize
value, the notes will be quantized accordingly) and it works as a
display (it shows the quantize level of the selected notes, or of the
whole segment) but not as a setting (i.e. it has no bearing on the
subsequent behaviour of the move or draw tools).
The menu you want is the grid menu, or hold down Shift to avoid
snapping to a grid at all. Note that the "None" item on the grid
menu doesn't currently work (there is an active bug report).
