Just a quick note to apologize for a long silence. I've been moving, and will be heading for the warm beaches of northern Europe for a few weeks, but hopefully will be productive before and definitely after.
Lilypond input is hard. I hacked together a parser that wasn't quite worth adding without a bit more work, but there's hope. Took a momentary detour through MusicXML which is mostly there and will be what gets checked in next week (if anything) after I get a chance to test it a bit.
The Lilypond guys seem interested in lilypond->some more universal XML format, so lilypond input may end up being a separate tool (lilypond->RG file format, then open then RG file) instead of/in addition to the actual import component.
Re: Chris (I think)'s comments earlier, any thoughts on streamlining the Import/Export/FileOpen+Save control flow? Has that work happened and/or does anyone own it?

I suspected it might be, but (without knowing all that much
about Lilypond) I thought it might be possible to do a good
enough job for most of the world's Lilypond files without
necessarily being strictly correct. I guess that was a bit

Gosh. Do you have another bit of software that supports it
(to get your test files from), then?
Hey, how about ETF import? There are quite a lot of ETF
files out there, and much of the code to parse it exists in
Lilypond's distribution (albeit in Python). No, perhaps I
should shut up now.

No, I outlined the problem just to try to get someone to bite
but nobody did. It's something that I'd do myself eventually,
just not yet. Are you suggesting having a look?
