Yes tried this today, but it locks up completely.
I did this.

So I will attach a copy of the file.
I did a couple of other things which might be helpful
1. Changed my rosegarderc file to say jackstart=3Dfalse instead of true.
After I did this I started rosegarden up fine. So I started up qjackctl
and than started rosegarden but it lock up this time. So after
rebooting I started rosegarden without jack again. I was poking around
the setup dialogues and it locked up again. Bother!
I did the strace after this. One thing I found interesting but may be
just the normal behaviour of strace is that rosegarden did not appear
on the desktop. Also top showed that strace, rosegardensequencer and
timidity were using heaps (can't remember the exact figures) of
cpu/memory. Anyway in the middle of the last attempt at writing this
email. Everything locked up again, so the strace file should show up
what might be going on until the bitter end.
Blast! of course the /tmp/ folder gets blitzed when my computer starts
up. I tried it again putting the file in a more permanent location and
it wouldn't lock up! I'll keep on trying. Maybe one of the settings I
changed did the trick. Timer settings RTC to system.
Will keep you posted if anything exciting happens.

System hangs when using the RTC timer are not at all uncommon -- especially
with a real-time kernel. I think the snd-rtctimer kernel module is buggy.
The particular version of Rosegarden shouldn't have any bearing on that,
though. Rosegarden 1.0 should hang your system just as well as 1.3pre1.
