Dear Heikki, Concerning this discussion: > I could accept a compromise: > > 4 is the longest default duration, used for 2/2, 2/4, > 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, etc. > > 8 is the shortest default duration, used for 3/8, 6/8, > 5/8, etc. > > But that would wet the idea of default duration. > > As a summary, the default duration becomes more important > with larger denominator values, like 8. I like the default duration idea. We don't need to compromise. You can have default durations. Let me explain a little better. Part 1: When a segment is first opened in the notation editor, the default duration is currently fixed a quarter note (crotchet). I propose we use the time signature denominator to set this initial duration. This code already exists. When we switch to a mode like select, or erase then switch back to inserting a note via a note insert shortcut (asdqwezxc [etc.]) the denominator of the time signature is used to set the duration. I want this code to be used when for determining the default time signature when a segment is first opened in the notation view window. Part 2: Noting the behavior above when switching modes. Is setting the duration to a denominator of the time signature the best choice? - It is better than in classic, where a message box appears telling you "no duration" was selected. - Would using the last duration selected before leaving note / rest mode be better? These are the things I would like you to speak about. Any thoughts on this? But if I'm missing something, then I guess we need to start making a 'compromise.' I'm willing to, but I think understanding the situation clearly first is better than negotiating a compromise. Let us first figure out what it is we are talking about. Sincerely, Julie S. |
