If you ask around on linux-audio-developers you'll probably find a=20 general level of disgust that you might even try running jackd as a=20 non-root user. There are certainly plenty of people out there who=20 will expect jackd to be run as root, or as a normal user with certain=20 capabilities, in a capabilities-enabled kernel -- that's distinctly=20 less likely at the moment though. But those people either already=20 aren't using jackd with Rosegarden, or else are running the whole of=20 Rosegarden as root, because the way things are currently set up, you=20 can't run jackd and a jack client as different users and you can't=20 run rosegardensequencer and rosegarden as different users. The latter setup would be very desirable though -- rosegardensequencer=20 suid root and rosegarden as an unprivileged user. That's what I=20 would use myself if I could. There's a feature request open about=20 this one (693010). Insights welcome. Chris |
