I suggest to implement a kind of a copy that is linked to it's original segment and cannot be edited.
If you edit the original segment, you also change all copies.
It's like a repeat, but need not be in continuous bars.
In almost every music you repeat parts, e.g. in bass-lines, drums, refrain, chorus, D.C., DS. So if you change something in rosegarden, you have to hardcopy the changes to all other parts in the piece.

In finale this kind of copy is called a mirror. There you can even change single notes of a mirror for variations, transpose the mirror...

  • Nobody ever connected the feature to the request. Ctrl+Alt drag takes a linked copy of a segment, and this has been around for several releases now. Notes in one are the same as notes in the other, and you can edit notes anywhere and have them propagated everywhere. It's even supposed to be possible to transpose these one way and those another way, but I haven't actually tested any of that.
