In rkhunter 1.3.6 under ubuntu 10.04 it appears to me that a comment must be on its own line, i.e. cannot start at the end of a real configuration entry. A glance at the 1.3.8 release notes didn't suggest to me that this is changed in later revisions than are in the ubuntu package. If I am correct about all this, it would be nice to let comments be everything following #, whether alone on a line or not. This makes it more convenient to set small comments, e.g. a date, on an entry

This won't be implemented. From the CVS version rkhunter.conf file:

    # End-of-line comments are not supported.

This problem was looked at but since '#' is actually valid in a file name it would be very difficult to distinguish from a filename and a comment. The only way to resolve this is to specify that end-of-line comments are not allowed.
