    error - void CSoundPlayerChannel::play(sample_pos_t,
CSoundPlayerChannel::LoopTypes, bool) -- the sound player is
    not initialized

    is the exact error.

If you run it from a terminal window, does it say anything
    on startup?

Hi. I use an NVidia ncp51 sound card and alsa. I sometimes
get the above error message, and sometimes I just don't get
any sound (without an error message), especially if I
specify an output method in the command line.

Either way, I don't get sound ever!

    Fantastic project, by the way.

I'm getting the same error. It's most frustrating. I've been jacking around with this for a month now and can't get it to work--but it just to work just fine.

If I start rezound from an xterm (aterm, actually) console, here's what I get:

    # rezound
using path '/usr/share/rezound' for share data directory
Error occurred while initializing audio output method 'alsa' -- virtual void CALSASoundPlayer::initialize() -- cannot set channel count -- Invalid argument
Error occurred while initializing audio output method 'jack' -- virtual void CJACKSoundPlayer::initialize() -- error connecting to jack server -- jackd not running?
If rezound dies unexpectedly while seeking with the keyboard, auto-repeat may be disabled.. if this happens run 'rezound --fix-auto-repeat'

If I try to play anything, a Rezound displays a pop-up dialogue box with the following message:

void CSoundPlayerChannel::play(sample_pos_t, CSoundPlayerChannel::LoopTypes, bool) -- the sound player is not initialized

    Notes:

Everything else works--XMMS, mplayer, Audacity, Totem, Audacious, Festival, Hydrogen, and a host of other applications that use audio. There appears to be no problems with my hardware (M-Audio Delta 1010 (VIA Technologies Envy24)), ALSA configuration, etc.

Also, Rezound used to work. I've no clue why it doesn't any more. Perhaps it's because I'm using a newer version of something. I'm running Gentoo, which may be a contributing factor, as Gentoo just loves to break stuff every time I update anything.

    I'm stumped.

Unfortunately, I'll have to get back to updating the jack implementation after the UI reimplementation. :(

I did get the sound to work but not very well.
I used an ALSA to OSS wrapper. The sound is very jerk but it did work.
