#68 Grey screen on startup

I dd'ed the iso http://www.archlinux.org/iso/2010.05/archlinux-2010.05-netinstall-x86_64.iso.torrent to /dev/sda5 of my MacBook2,1 and after that, when booting only a grey screen comes up. (It wont boot from CD/enter in open firmware mode/go into target disk mode

    I don't understand how this is related to rEFIt. You're not even saying if you have it installed.

    Entering target disk mode and similar things, which you trigger by holding down 'T' or other keys at startup, are handled by Apple's firmware. This happens early in the boot process, before rEFIt is started. If your computer locks up there, that's a problem with Apple's firmware. It is plausible that it gets stuck while scanning attached disk drives, their partition tables and file systems. But I have no way to tell if that's the case here. Apple's support site may have some things to try (SMC reset, for example).
