    Okay, perhaps I'm daft, but I have installed mediaWiki and am excited about integrating RefBase into it.

    I found out about RefBase from the mediaWiki wiki page:

    where RefBase is listed as an extension for mediaWiki.

    I've searched and searched but have not been able to figure out how to draw references out of RefBase when I cite references in mediaWiki...

    Am I crazy?

    Thanks for any help.

      thx -J.

    • Hi Jeff,

      the 'refbase.php' extension for MediaWiki is currently only available in the "bleeding-edge" branch of the refbase SVN repository. You can get it here:

      http://refbase.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/refbase/branches/bleeding-edge/contrib/mediawiki/

      Did you install this file and hook it up with MediaWiki as described in the accompanied Readme file?

      http://refbase.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/refbase/branches/bleeding-edge/contrib/mediawiki/README?view=markup

      Hi Matthias

      Thanks for your prompt reply!

      Not only did I do what you suggested, but I installed the bleeding edge version of refbase and followed the directions regarding integrating refbase with mediawiki.

      That said...  I still have not had any luck.  One question I have is:  Do I need to have a Template:Cite_journal page in my wiki?  I tried copying the version from wikipedia over, but still no success.  While I don't receive an error I get what I guess is code in place of where a reference should be.  Something like:

      Continuity of Care{{#if:Amon
      |{{#if:RMW Amon
         |{{#if:
            Amon
            |Amon{{#if:
              RMW
              |, RMW
            }}
            |{{{author}}}
          }}
         |{{#if:Amon
           |Amon{{#if:
             RMW
             |, RMW
           }}
           |{{{author}}}
         }}
      }}
      ... etc.

      Any help would be appreciated!

      Thanks in advance.

      • You need to install the ParserFunctions extension to MediaWiki to get citation templates to work:
        http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/ParserFunctions

        Perhaps this should be added to the documentation, but I wanted to make working citation templates a pre-req & leave it to MediaWiki/Wikipedia instructions to keep you up-to-date as to how to get those working (as the templates are changed fairly frequently & some changes have different pre-reqs).

      Matthias & Richard

      Thanks for your help.  Richard:  adding the ParserFunctions helped.  I also needed to add the Template:Cite_journal, Template:Documentation and another odd one (sorry I can't remember what it was...).  Now everything is working like a charm!

      Thanks for the help!
