Auto-updating bibliographies with show.php

  • Hi,

refbase has the ability to automatically generate bibliographies based on the database information. This is perfect for creating automatically updating reference lists for your organization, group or CV.

The file 'show.php' was rewritten substantially so that it can be used to generate auto-updating author or group bibliographies. If you've installed refbase from CVS, you may be interested in the following wiki page which gives many examples for creating dynamic reference lists:

    http://wiki.refbase.net/index.php/Auto-updating_author/group_bibliographies

Let me know, if you've got further questions.

    Best regards, Matthias

    Hi,

I like this feature and started to use it to have an iframed publication list on my website.

Are there some more customization options? I'd like to have a plain list of publications, which includes the links to the papers and also the nice pop up for each reference with abstract and some download citation links.
But I don't want to see the search interface at the very top of the page in the iframe and I also don't need the checkboxes for every entry. It would be perhaps nice to have some of the show and download interfaces at the bottom of the page, but not as prominent at the beginning of the publication list.

When I set wrapresults=0 then I loose the abstracts and the popup functionality. I also loose the formatting. Can I assign a css to the out then somehow?

Finally, I also like the type-year sorting. Is this customizable? Could one e.g.
    - omit the bit year number headings
    - rearrange the order and rename the headlines for the types?

    Best,

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

Are there some more customization options?

It seems you are aware of the relevant refbase online docs, but for other interested users, the refbase include features are described here:

    http://include.refbase.net/

Are there some more customization options?

You can use & change pretty much all parameters of the 'show.php' API, which is described (in part) at:

    http://linking.refbase.net/
    http://bibliographies.refbase.net/

Unfortunately, the full list of available 'show.php' parameters isn't documented in the wiki yet, but you can have a look at the top of the 'show.php' source.

I'd like to have a plain list of publications, which includes the links to the papers and also the nice pop up for each reference with abstract and some download citation links.

You mean, something along these lines:

    http://beta.refbase.net/javascript/include_test3.html

To achieve something like this, see the AJAX section of the first linked page.

But I don't want to see the search interface at the very top of the page in the iframe

Are you aware of this IFRAME example:

    http://beta.refbase.net/include_test.html

By including 'client=inc-refbase-1.0' in the iframe URL, the refbase page header & footer will be omitted in the  returned HTML page. The checkboxes allow for batch export of selected items, so I think they are quite useful (while still being rather unobtrusive), but that's of course my personal POV.

It would be perhaps nice to have some of the show and download interfaces at the bottom of the page, but not as prominent at the beginning of the publication list.

But wouldn't it be good enough if the "Search & Display Options" and "Cite & Export Options" section would be hidden by default (as in the above linked 'include_test.html ' example)?

When I set wrapresults=0 then I loose the abstracts and the popup functionality. I also loose the formatting. Can I assign a css to the out then somehow?

No, you don't lose the show/hide functionality nor the formatting (see the above 'include_test3.html' example). You just need to include the required CSS & JavaScript files in the header of your main HTML page. See the source of 'include_test3.html' for an example.

Finally, I also like the type-year sorting. Is this customizable? Could one e.g.
    - omit the bit year number headings
    - rearrange the order and rename the headlines for the types?

I fear I'm not understanding what you're trying to achieve here. Could you elaborate?

    Thanks, Matthias
