Simple suggestion - change your password and remove the £ symbol. 
Whilst using characters other than 'A'-'Z','a'-'z' is good, it's best to 
stick to those in the standard ASCII table.  Anything which is dependent 
on your extended character set settings is probably asking for trouble.
