I already committed that fix a couple of days ago, so it should be there. Justin, have you checked that sound works in another Linux program? (cat /dev/urandom >/dev/dsp if nothing else :)) Maybe the mixer volume is right down? I doubt the hardware acceleration thing is relevant.
