Is this an option for you? If your hardware supports 24 bits, you you can tell the X server to use 24 bits as the default visual instead of 8. The X command depends on the graphics hardware (e.g. Creator, Creator 3, Creator 3D, Create elite, etc.) but it's probably one of these: /usr/sbin/ffbconfig -deflinear true /usr/sbin/m64config -depth 24 /usr/sbin/afbconfig -deflinear true After making this change you'll need to logout and log back in to restart the X server with the new configuration. If the screen appears "washed out" after making this change, you can try adjusting the gamma correction. For example, a user has reported that afbconfig -deflinear true -g 1.1 works well. Another user reported that none of these commands worked on a SunBlade 100. However, they were able to get it working by putting this command in /etc/dt/config/Xservers: :0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner -dev /dev/fb1 defdepth 24 This hasn't caused any problems for us, and fixes problems with colors flashing as the mousse is moved between windows. I've heard that some older programs may have trouble because they assume that the default visual is 8 bits. But, I haven't found any. -- Peter Fales Lucent Technologies, Room 1C-436 N9IYJ 2000 N Naperville Rd PO Box 3033 internet: ps...@lu...
