#254 Laptop running Ubuntu gutsy freezes (connecting to XP)

Visual (35)

I am experiencing this problems randomly (after few secounds or after an hour). It is realy annoying because I have to hard reset laptop each time this happens.
(similar what is reported in a connecting to Vista thread)

Any idea what causes a problem.

Compaq 8510p, Radeon HD 2600, Gnome desktop, Ubuntu Gutsy

Tnx in advance.

I don't have a solution, but I am having the same problem. When working on a Windows machine through rdesktop (confirmed with Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 2003 server), my laptop will crash in a kernel panic.

I have the same problem with the following configurations:
    - Different linux distributions - Ubuntu and Gentoo
    - Different video card drivers - open source nv and closed source nvidia
    - Different versions of rdesktop 1.4.1-1.2 and 1.5.0-2
    - Full screen or windowed rdesktop
    - Using tsclient front-end or just running rdesktop directly
    - Different color depths - 256 colors, 16 bit, or 24 bit

Some things that have always remained constant - I am connecting through a Cisco VPN client (v4.8.01) and I have only tried using gnome as a window manager. These crashes are frustrating, as terminal services connections have become the only remaining thing for which I need windows.

I will test on a different computer tomorrow to see if I can duplicate the problems. I am using a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop (fully supported with Ubuntu).

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I would also be happy to provide more information or test different configurations. I just don't know what else I can try.

    Thank you!
