The attached patch enables OpenBSD compilation and I have tested several runs. The Makefile change does not seem to adversely impact Linux compilation but I did not test the change on Windows.

NetBSD has some glitches still that I should have resolved soon. FreeBSD seems to do lots of things entirely different from everyone else.

    Should also note that something might need to go into the README to indicate that it must be built using gmake on OpenBSD. Though, most users will know to try this if make fails.

    A cleaner fix already existed in svn for OSX and tested fine for OpenBSD so the appropriate changes have been committed to svn.
