#1 Configure script fails to identify types

Doing a straight './configure && make' fails on my box,
as the configure script detects the sizes of int, long
etc. as 0.

I tracked down the problem as the C++ code which
detects the size failing to compile, and was able to
fix the problem by hacking around in the configure
script. However, the problem reappears when I rebuild
the configure file.

I've tried updating autoconf / automake with no luck.

If I remember correctly, this is a bug in autoconf and
    triggered by a
too new or too old gcc.
I'll try to move proper type selection into the code itself
    some time next week,
then we can get rid of these tests.

I did an autoconf (using autoconf 2.59), and the resulting
configure script worked fine. I'll commit the new configure
    script to CVS.

I have now committed modified configure/configure.in files
(although they don't show up in webCVS yet).
Please let me know if it works for you now.
