To the entire list(most of you have no idea this ever existed!). I wrote a "Module Gallery" module several months ago for the sole purpose of being Rainbow's answer to the asp.net control gallery. This project was never launched fully, the reasons being A: my personal inexperience as a developer. It was buggy and needed work. I'm MUCH better now and able to make this module a great one. B: Nothing to put into it!!! Look at the module downloads on the Rainbow portal site. Every one of them is either already in the core(and the downloadable version is ancient), no longer supported, 2 years old, all of the above. I was hoping it would be great for the Rainbow shop(doh), then for offering the modules when they were split from the core(didn't happen),etc. So I now ask. Is there interest in actually *finishing* this project? I already have put a ton of work into this module, I'm willing to finish it. We need to setup a channel to encourage non-contributors to start submitting the modules they wrote. This means updating the documentation on how to write modules, and a team of willing people to proof the modules then post them on the module gallery. Ideally I'd like to have a standards document specifying a level of base quality and a basic rating system(1 = buggy, 2 = MS would release it, 5=actually worth paying for). If you are interested, the one major show stopper right now is a lack of modules to put into it. IMPORTANT: do not email me modules! I am on a very slow connection and it won't make me happy if it takes me 4 hours to download my mail from the server! Hi Chris, I sent a mail to the list hoping for some feedback on some of the modules that we could safely remove from the core (i.e. non essential ones). I think there are a few we could remove from the core the two most obvious are: * Daily Dilbert * Weather Modules This could be added to the Module Gallery to get the ball rolling. Are there any more people wouldnt mind moving out of the core (i.e. to make it lighter and easier to manage)? We could then update them as releases go out (i.e. V1 compatible, V1.1 Compatible etc). Something we could add is the theme's and layouts we have removed from rainbow core so that people who are updating can still use them. I also have a mail from my hotmail account with someone who wanted to add a free module so I'll let them know about this. Guy's could you email the modules to me as I am on ADSL and have sufficient space in my gmail account. If you havent received a reply in 2 days from me please email me without the attachment (In case google prevented it from going through). Chris is there a time we can meet up and chat about the Module? I'll be online most of tomorrow and monday so you can catch me then. Hi, I have been installing RC4 (latest from CVS) : it works well locally, when published I am getting every 50 pages or so a 'Portal not found' error, which is in reality : - general network error for SQL server - request timed out to access SQL server Another developper in Australia got the same problem when Rainbow is hosted (local version is fine). The version 1771 was working fine in the same conditions. Does any one has similar problems when hosted. Thierry |

Yes... I did on the Rainbowportal. First thing to check: the size of the monitoring table. If you do not use just clear the whole... I suppose we have to add a switch to web.config that turns monitoring = off by default or do some cleanup. All is well when there are only few rows, but a site can be come = completely un-browsable if row count surpass 1.000.000 (it can be worse on a shared system) ------------------------------------ Emmanuele De Andreis Technical Manager DUEMETRI Internet Solutions Provider RAINBOW PORTAL Main portal - http://www.rainbowportal.net Sourceforge CVS - http://sourceforge.net/projects/rainbowportal/ Support Forums - http://www.rainbowportal.net/ASPNetForums Bug Tracker - = http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=3D66837&atid=3D515929 -----Original Message----- From: rai...@li... Hi Manu Thank you for your answer, I actually already removed the code for monitoring. I realised that the host I am with has a win2003 server and I am testing locally with win2000 Anyone running a version with win2003 with no problem? I'm currently running Rainbowportal site on win 2003. No timeout problems and no connection opens on db (it is an high traffic site so should experience strange behaviour). I'm currently revising all close connection. I have removed the dispose and left only close wrapped in a try / = finally so that connection is ALWAYS closed even if an exception occurs. I will commit fixes later today. ------------------------------------ Emmanuele De Andreis Technical Manager DUEMETRI Internet Solutions Provider RAINBOW PORTAL Main portal - http://www.rainbowportal.net Sourceforge CVS - http://sourceforge.net/projects/rainbowportal/ Support Forums - http://forums.rainbowportal.net Bug Tracker - = http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=3D66837&atid=3D515929 -----Original Message----- From: rai...@li... Hi, I found a problem caching the TabStripDetails in multi-database mode In that case you can have 2 different portals with same TabIDs if users are accessing them at the same time it is creating a mismatch and navigation of one site to the other. It was possibly creating the problem. I fixed it in the latest CVS Added UniquePortalID to the key (I wonder if it is not slowing down the application so). Hi Guys, UniquePortalID is something that makes multiple DBs and a single source possible (Which makes maintaining rainbow so much easier :D) it does cause a slow down however. Could someone look over the UniquePortalID code (Similar to PortalAlias) and see if there is anyway of optimising it and finding the unique id faster? Could you explain what stress testing software and testing methodology you = use? There are several ways to so such things and I am curious what approach you= use. I do it almost simple. I use 2 tools. Application center test and AqTime. AppCenter comes from Microsoft Visual Studio. I prepare a rainbow site with some modules (20/30 different modules) on = the same page and I record a test. In the record I include some actions that can impact performance: - Login/logout - Language change - Access to setting pages Then I run it. Usually 5 minutes test. Sometimes I run profiling with Aqtime. Aqtime gives me precise timing of how code is executed. Where slow code = is. How many time routine is called. The number of ADO connections is not available in 1.1 as perf counter = (will be in Whidbey) but it is pretty easy to use enterprise manager for get = the number of connection open. Running app center test is easy to see is a single sproc or sql is executed without closing connection. So I = discovered a bug on Enhanced HTML that was not releasing connections. Any other ideas for doing better? ------------------------------------ Emmanuele De Andreis Technical Manager DUEMETRI Internet Solutions Provider =20 RAINBOW PORTAL Main portal - http://www.rainbowportal.net Sourceforge / CVS - http://sourceforge.net/projects/rainbowportal/ Support Forums - http://www.rainbowportal.net/ASPNetForums -----Messaggio originale----- Da: rai...@li...
