Generally the installation is different depending on whether the user is running their own server (which is rare) or if they are using shared = hosting (which is quite common). The first thing they have to do is create a MS SQL Server database. = Then they have to set the connection string to it and customize the settings = in the 2 .config files. After that, they just upload the code, setup an = IIS application folder and go to the site. It runs all the update scripts = to populate the database and then they have a working portal. The parts of this process that need automation are creating the = database, and modifying the .config files. If the user can't upload the code themselves, they probably shouldn't be using the portal at this point = due to other issues. Later on we need to build in the rest of the process so = that it will all just work. Meanwhile, the .next team will be starting from scratch on version 2 and code has been frozen for the version 1 release (except for bug fixes). Did I cover most of it, guys? This is my understanding as to what is = going on currently. Module development is still in progress, but since the = core will dramatically change for the next version, anything done now is = going to need porting to the new framework. -----Original Message----- From: rai...@li... Subject: [Rainbowportal-devel] New member introduction Hi Everyone, My name is Cemil Ayvaz, and I'm interested in doing what I can to = help out the Rainbow project. This is the first =13source forge=14 project that I've = tried to get involved with, but I do have 4 years of programming experience, and some experience with the IBuySpy portal. I'm interested in improving the users' installation experience if = Manu's message "New Rainbow Installation Program (needs a volunteer)" is still valid.=20 If anyone has any information related to the installation experience, = drop me a line.
