I'm getting trouble with the first statement in your online tutorial. If
I use your provided source code, python tells me the following:

NameError: name 'canvas' is not defined

This is nothing to do with pyx.
You've named your file pyx.py, so when you "import pyx", it tries to
import this very same file. The import statement looks first in the
Try renaming your pyx.py to test.py. Make sure you get rid of the
pyx.pyc as well.
