I just tried using easy_install to install Pyx on a Linux machine, using the following command:

easy_install pyx

and got the error below.   Is there a workaround for this?  Having an easily-installable PyPI package for Pyx is really useful for end-users like me!

Thanks,

Mike

Running PyX-0.10/setup.py -q bdist_egg --dist-dir /tmp/easy_install-_D_bmc/PyX-0.10/egg-dist-tmp-r1bHsH
error: Setup script exited with error: SandboxViolation: mkdir('/usr/local/share/pyx',) {}

The package setup script has attempted to modify files on your system
that are not within the EasyInstall build area, and has been aborted.

This package cannot be safely installed by EasyInstall, and may not
support alternate installation locations even if you run its setup
script by hand.  Please inform the package's author and the EasyInstall
maintainers to find out if a fix or workaround is available.
