I'm sorry but I couldn't find any 'history' of this online (and I searched for a while).
Has PyPi considered creating a rule where the PyPi name must match the distribution name ?
I'm asking this, because I was trying to test python clients to StatsD today, and each of these PyPi packages installs into the
statsd namespace :
There are probably more statsd libraries that due this, and I've seen many issues like this before with the oAuth libraries and several other projects.
It's just very annoying that the pypi namespaces are unique, but they don't enforce unique names for site-packages.
