the autocomplete doesn't do the things it should do.
have a look at pyCrust in the wxPython distribiution.
there should be enough examples to implement the things
you need in wxPython, because this one is also based on
the same editor class.

    Aside from the "you should do it like pyCrust does, there
    should be examples so that you can implement this thing that
    I want", which is a tad rude, it was also a good suggestion,
    and I wanted it, so...it is added.

    Unfortunately, using pyCrust, it doesn't look like they
    really do anything with autocomplete, you are thinking
    calltips, they will be in 1.4. When you have a function
    name then an open-paren, calltips will be displayed in a
    similar fashion to pyCrust.

    In terms of making autocomplete better, it has been. As
    soon as one starts typing the name of a known function/class
    definition, a dropdown is displayed just under where the
    carat is, showing a list of possible functions. It just
    works...well.
