This is a general problem with GUI IDEs under Windows. There are IDEs which can handle GUI running without interfering with the IDE itself (by running the application in a seperate process). Those are Boa, I think, and one of the for-pay IDEs as well, but PythonWin and IDLE are definitely not "GUI-safe".
