Hey guys, I'm fiddling around with PyMol 0.93. I used the prepackaged i386 version and it was good. I then got the sources and rebuitl them for 64-bit and woah! I have a dual Opteron machine and the SMP 64-bit FLIES! It's like rotating molecules real-time! :) My middle mouse button though, crashes the program with the following PyMOL>show surface RepSurface: 55145 surface points. RepSurface: 89242 triangles. count_atoms: 7992 atoms ### rolled middle mouse button here ./pymol.com: line 2: 27519 Segmentation fault /usr/bin/python /usr/lib64/python2.3/site-packages/pymol/__init__.py $* Any ideas on this? I'm going to trace down some SRC here in a few... Jason, Thanks for the kind words. It has been a while since anyone's tried to build/run PyMOL on a 64-bit system...it may not currently be 64-bit clean. We don't currently have any Opteron hardware, but if you can build under -g, crash the program under GDB, and then send me the backtrace output then perhaps I can solve this bug. Are you using a current CVS checkout or the 0.93 src? I'd recommend using CVS source for debugging... For the record, 64 bit Debian packages are built on alpha and ia64 (I believe the other architectures are currently 32bit) and the test suite passes at least. I've had a few bug reports from an alpha user (Helge Kreutzmann), though, but they are quite minor (see http://bugs.debian.org/pymol). cheers, Michael |
