Well, I eventually solved it after about 1.5 days of work. My setup.py was a mixture of these: 1) http://www.py2exe.org/index.cgi/Tutorial#Step52 2) http://wiki.wxpython.org/CreatingStandaloneExecutables 3) http://wiki.wxpython.org/DistributingYourApplication And it had been working with Python 2.6. But it appears #2 and #3 above should be ignored for Python 2.7. More specifically, do not include this sort of stuff in your setup.py: manifest = """ <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> blah blah blah """ "other_resources": [(24,1,manifest)] The outboard manifest stuff in #1 above evidently takes care of whatever this is supposed to do. (Not that I would know as it all reminds me too much of IBM JCL and the memories are just too painful <whimper>.) All to the good, I think, as it makes for a much shorter and less voodoo-laden setup.py.
