Puma-EM 0.6.1

Hi all,

small, incremental things for MLFMA module. Corrected testVolakisMoM.py, now will give the same results as MLFMA.

Those who want to dabble with dielectrics can check out code/MOM.py. To run, type "python MOM.py".

MOM.py and testVolakisMoM.py will only work with python 2. I know, lame, but complain to the guys producing Scipy.

Puma-EM 0.5.9

Hi all,

small, incremental changes, but worthed a release. Might be a bit slower/memory-hungry, as precision has been increased a bit.

Cheers

Work is still ongoing

Hi all,

Work on Puma-EM is still ongoing. Right now, the work focuses on significant enhancement of memory management for clusters and multi-core machines. This is the road ahead, and there is no escaping it.

The aim is to break the 100 million unknowns barrier on a "modest" cluster (16-24 cores, 80 GBytes RAM, 300 GBytes disk space). When this is done (count 1-2 months), we will move on to
1) larger problems (scalability issues to iron out)
2) new excitation modes (delta gap)
3) antenna radiation patterns
4) dielectrics... read more

Puma-EM 0.5.4

Hi all,

Here it is, finally. This version improves significantly the capabilities of the code, mainly in the area of target excitation and mesh support:

  • possibility for excitation by a plurality of dipoles
  • magnetic dipoles
  • support for ANSYS and GiD mesh formats
  • a user guide

latest developments

Hi all,

project has slowed down a lot because of an unfortunate event (google "iran releases 3 belgians") that took me away for 4 months. Add to this the fact that I just changed my job, and you will understand why things went slowly.

But I'm back on track. Right now I'll be focusing on implementing compatibility for other mesh formats, so that you can use your favorite mesher. I will also add capabilities for antenna pattern calculation. That's for the near future (2-3 months.)... read more

latest news

Hi all,

the project has slowed a bit, because of my removal to a new country and job.

However, development is still going on. Version 0.6 will be out by the end of September (vacations needed), and will contain support for mesh formats other than GMSH. This will allow you to use your favourite CAD tool, mesh your target in a supported format, and run Puma on it!

On another register, a user is currently testing Puma on really big targets: 90+ million of unknowns! Keep tuned if you want to know when Puma breaks the magic 100 million barrier...... read more

code is now hosted on Sourceforge!

Hi all,

the code is now hosted on SourceForge, using the git Code Management System. You can now freely browse and get the code.

"Classic" users however, may want to just download the official releases, since the git code may have brokenness in it.

git has been created by Linus Torvalds himself, to help him and the community with the development of the Linux kernel.

Have fun!

53.9 million!!

Today, in a little less than 60 hours, Puma has solved a problem containing 53,913,204 unknowns.

The target was a 1m cube, illuminated by a dipole at 45.12 GHz.

It happened on two 64-bits quad core machines (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5430 @ 2.66GHz, 6MB cache, 5333.58 bogomips) with 16 GBytes of RAM each.

The memory occupation of Puma was:
37 GBytes RAM
180 GBytes Disk (90 GBytes / machine)

The details of the record are on the wiki.

Happy simulating!
