Nonessential graphics-related compatibility options like translucent projectiles, negative sky, ouch face, etc. are forced on/off at certain complevels. Since complevels 2, 3, 4, and 9 are most relevant, this means that these options are rarely, if ever, used. A configuration override that would force graphics-related settings which are inconsequential to compatibility, e.g., comp_graphics, would allow the user to adjust these settings accordingly, regardless of the complevel. It doesn't make sense that graphical tweaks specific to the interface would be controlled by complevels, since they do not affect actual gameplay. Rather, it should be left to the user's discretion whether or not they are enabled/disabled.
