    I don''t doubt that my problem is related to the second post I linked in the first post in this thread, but I''m not really sure where I should be looking for errors.  By default, is there some other log postgre will write to other than the default in /var/log/postgresql?

    Also, the client and the server are two seperate machines, both running Ubuntu and both 32-bit.  The server is Ubuntu 8.04.1 with PostgreSQL 8.3.5 and the client is Ubuntu 8.10.
