Thanks to all the lovely lifehacker visitors, the Programmer's Notepad web server has been completely overloaded and is now quivering in a corner under its bedsheets - the coward. Hopefully it'll come out to play again later today and I'll start getting e-mail again!... read more

PN2 2.0.6 "Ella" Released

PN2 is an open source text editor (http://pnotepad.org/) for Windows.

PN 2.0.6-Ella has just been released, replacing version 1 as our recommended stable release.

Lots of good new features in this release, and lots of bug fixes too. Many of the features allow people to build around PN2 so we're looking forward to seeing some good uses of the new projects features.

As a very brief preview, this build sees built-in support for new languages (including Ruby and Assembler), a firefox-esque incremental find bar, brace matching and configurable file type to scheme mappings.... read more

pnotepad.org out of bandwidth...

pnotepad.org transferred over 4 GB of files this month, and as such as run over the paid-for bandwidth allocation. Unfortunately this means I'm going to have to route all file downloads through sourceforge from now on - I can't afford to pay any more for the pnotepad web site.

If only the sourceforge download routine wasn't such a pain...

The home page will be back soon - sorry!

Thanks to all the testers for this release, especially Eric Weddington.... read more

First pn-devel code line release

The very first build of Programmers Notepad 2 has been released. Part of the pn-devel code line, this is the first release from the new C++ code base.

As those familiar with sourceforge will not need telling, software released in the development code line is not version 1.0 software, and there will most likely be bugs. There are certainly huge numbers of missing features.

Please give PN2 a try, and let us know whether you like it. Make full use of the trackers for the best response from the development team. Mailing lists will be coming along shortly.... read more
