This is for Rafael:
I noticed the example files on my debian sid machine are all
in /usr/share/doc/plplot-tcl-dev/examples which seems to be
kinda odd. I see examples in doc areas often, but in tcl-dev?
I setup my Mandrake spec file to put them in:
Not clear on policy for locations of example files on any

Actually, the examples are in /usr/share/doc/libplplot9/examples. All the
others /usr/share/doc/*plplot* are symlinks to /usr/share/doc/libplplot9.

Debian Policy mandates that all examples must be in
I adopt the symlink approach above (which is pretty common practice in
Debian) because it avoids the duplication of several files (like copyright,
changelog.Debian.gz, etc) in the several /usr/share/doc/<package>
directories. Also, the Debian PLplot packages have all the
documentation/examples centralized in /usr/share/doc/libplplot9 (not
plplot-dev-tcl!), which is a Good Thing (TM) IMHO.
If the user wants to see the octave examples, she goes to:
or if she wants python:
If she wants to see everything at once:
