hi all, I sourcing for a dgps receiver for my pioneer robots and I am desparately in need for some advises from the good ppl in this mailing list. 1) Any recommendation on what dgps to get, that can work with Player (on linux). 2) Any advise on how to connect the dgps to the pioneer robots, can I connect the dgps directly to the AUX port of the H8S ucontroller motherboard and interface it to the AROS? Or is it more advisable to connect the receiver to my notebook that is running the Player server and write a plug-in driver for the receiver? My concern is that p2os does not provides the dgps interface and on the other hand I have only 1 serial port that is already been used. 3) Anybody has already written a gps driver and is willing to shared the code or give me some hints on how to do it :p Thanks for any advise given Sze Kong |

Are you sure that player will work with AROS? Some of students keep on asking me when I remove P2OS from host controller and install AROS. I'm refusing since others are working with Player and such an action may break compatibility. > My concern is that p2os does not provides the dgps interface and on > the other hand I have only 1 serial port that is already been used. That's general problem. I'm about to change PC/104+ mainboard on one of the Pioneers to modern (and much faster) IB104+1GC by IBase (currently I'm waiting for weeks for ordered equipment, it must going up the hill backwards). The problem is that it has only two RS232C ports (while currently used P5e by Ampro has four RS232C ports) and player cannot use free RS232C ports on Host Controller so when I connect 1) Host Controller and 2) PTZ control of EVID30 camera, I won't be able to use SICK Laser (for example) unless I buy USB serial port. > > 3) Anybody has already written a gps driver and is willing to shared the code or > give me some hints on how to do it :p Some of PJIIT students are about to write their own gps driver. I'll write here if I notice any progress with it. Greetings, Paul |

I've done some limited testing, and Player works fine with AROS on both AT and DX Pioneer 3 robots. The Player driver is still called "p2os" because it would not be worth it to change *everything* just to rename it. The protocol is the same for all ActivMedia robots (excepting additions, and some fundamental feature differences on different model robots -- in that case unsupported commands do nothing). Reed |
