I have just committed a set of *major* changes to player, by joining the
'message-overhaul' branch to HEAD. This merge brings in the new message
model, and it will take some time before we finish updating all the
drivers and client libs to use this new model. We'll also be
overhauling the interfaces defined in player.h, and changing the
underlying data format (probably to XDR).
So....until further notice (some weeks I would guess), CVS HEAD for
player will be UNSTABLE, INCOMPATIBLE (e.g, with stage, gazebo) and
generally not fun to use.
Player 1.6.4 should suit most people's needs; I recommend working from
that release. This version can be retrieved from CVS using the tag
$ cvs co -r release-1-6-4-nonbranch player
If you need to commit changes (e.g., for a driver you maintain), then
check out player using the 'release-1-6-4' tag:
$ cvs co -r release-1-6-4 player
It's a branch tag, so changes can be committed there. To minimize the
pain of later merges, I'd prefer to keep changes on this branch to a
minimum, but if don't let it stop you from doing work; if you're making
progress on a driver, commit your changes on the branch.
I'll provide updates as get going on this overhaul.
