Hi Mathew and Playerstage-users
The developers don't know of any SLAM module that exists right now.
However, Gaurav Sukhatme at USC is encouraging students in his robotics
classes to write Player devices that implement well-known algorithms.
Gaurav has some great students so this should work out well, but it'll
take some time. Bottom line is, if you need it right now do it yourself
and share it around.
By the way, Gaurav and Maja Mataric are the honored grandparents of
Player/Stage project; they paid me, Brian, Andrew and Kasper for the
jillion hours we spent on this software - time spent _not_ producing
papers (or Brian's PhD thesis!) - over the last 3 years. We are pretty
much self sufficient for some hours over the next few months thanks to
Doug Gage at DARPA who knows a cute (and cheap) project when he sees one.
Our aim now is to bootstrap up from 1.2 using the community to broaden the
device support and add processing modules like the one Mathew asks about.
By making robot programming easier and faster, achieving some code-reuse,
and by providing a reference point for other efforts, we'll be satisfying
our supporters and (perhaps best of all) scratching that Free Software
itch. Thanks everyone.
