yup, I did it when I was trying to simulate implicit communication between 
robots. One robot could "broadcast a message" to other robots by changing its 
color. I was using simulation proxy for changing colour of the robot along 
with the blobfinder device offered by robots modeled in stage which i 
used to recognize colour objects seen by given robot. For some time 
blobfinder feature was kinda broken in Stage-2.1, recently it was fixed 
and it should work as expected.

There is also graphics2d interface offered by Stage, you cam draw vector 
graphics in Stage window, it will be shown relative to given robot 
position.
