we are using a custom coordinate frame for all of our work so haven't needed srid's at all, you can probably get more useful answers from the GIS world, possibly the postgis or geos mailing lists...

I don't have much experience with GEOS C library so I couldn't find how
to include SRID to new geometries created by GEOSGeom_createLineString()
call. Do you know how to do this? I've tried to use GEOSSetSRID() call,
but whatever I set, GEOSGeomToWKB_buf() creates WKB with SRID set to -1.
The only workaround I see now is to create geometry table like this:
SELECT AddGeometryColumn('public', 'obstacles', 'geom', -1, 'LINESTRING',
2);
so it will add constraint: "enforce_srid_geom" CHECK (srid(geom) = -1)
